Newcastle Private Hospital Clinical Trial Unit
For over 14 years a dedicated, experienced clinical trials team at Newcastle Private Hospital have been enabling its local community of medical researcher’s and its patients the possibility to participate in research and clinical trials.
NPH clinical trial unit (CTU) is connected to local researchers aiming to support the needs of its patient community by providing them greater access to treatment options. The NPH CTU team and its researchers participate in international, national and local research and are active members of a number of national cancer cooperative trial groups that conduct world class multidisciplinary research for cancer control including the Australian Gastro-Intestinal Trials Group, Australian New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group, and the Breast Cancer Trials Group.
The NPH CTU has participated in over 60 clinical trial protocols recruiting on average 31 patients/year to various phase 1b to phase 4 studies. The studies, both interventional and observational, aim to test new treatments, new combinations of drugs or new approaches to surgery in the prevention, diagnostic, treatment and screening settings.
The NPH CTU have been recognised for the following achievements including:
- Achieving “established systems” (as per the maturity scale) during an ACHS accreditation which included assessment to the new National Clinical Trial Governance framework, May 2024
- Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group Outstanding Clinical Trial Site Award 2023
- Healthscope Ace Award – “We Care” category 2022
- Affiliate member of the Hunter New England Local Health District, NSW Premiers Award for Outstanding Cancer Clinical Trials 2020
- Healthscope STAR Award – “Service Excellence” category 2019
